While I was waiting for my latest project to compile, I was idly looking around Google Earth when I noticed an image of something familiar docked in Sydney!

As at turns out, the Wikipedia page on the QE2 even has a photo taken around that time, by User:Merbabu:

On February 20, 2007, the QE2, while on her annual world cruise, met her running mate and successor flagship QM2 (herself on her maiden world cruise) in Sydney Harbour, Australia. This was the first time two Cunard Queens had been together in Sydney since the original Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth served as troop ships in 1941.

Isn’t it crazy that it’s February already? It seems like just a week ago I was in Sydney watching the New Year’s fireworks going off on the Harbour Bridge! Time flies is probably one of the most abused, overused and tired cliches we humans have ever dreamed up, but it’s just so damned fitting!

On the subject of calendars, despite the fact Mac OS X Leopard has been out for a few months already it’s still finding ways to surprise me. Case in point I just reinstalled the OS on my MacBook Pro as part of my quarterly hard disk cleaning and I still had the iCal icon in my dock.

See anything unusual? It seems that the default behavior in the Leopard version of iCal is to show the current date even when it’s not running! Previously you would need to launch iCal and have it running hidden for it to show the date, now it just shows it just by being there. Very nice!
This is some of the widget functionality that I originally thought OS X would have after seeing how modular and functional the dock apps were in NeXTStep and OPENStep. I’ve long since got used to having the battery indicators and volume controls in the menu bar, but they seem the perfect candidates for little dock apps.
And how about this February in 2008 already? Isn’t it crazy!?

It’s been just under a fortnight now since my sister, dad and I came back from our Sydney trip. Obviously the main reason for going was for mummy’s funeral, but we tried to do other things while we were there too.
I’ve taken stacks of photos and haven’t really organised any of them very well but I’m taking some time tomorrow to filter through them and get some up here and on my Flickr profile. I could shoehorn all of them onto one post, but for your sanity and mine I’ll be splitting them up.

I hate posts without any pictures. Here’s a photo I took of the legendary Oak and Hungry Jacks rest stop sign on the highway between Sydney and Taree.
I’ll also be doing another Rubenerd Show early this week, not sure if I should talk about mum or whether I’ve already said enough here. Either way, I have some cool stories and funny stuff to share, as I hope I always do! Cheers.

My grandma (far right in the photo above) on my mum’s side of the family down in Sydney who I’ve always called Nanny turns the big 80 today! The whole extended family is having a huge get together and party for her right now, I guess this is one of the downsides of living over 5000 kilometres away in Singapore.
Nanny has been such a kind and wonderful person to me for so many years, many of my earliest memories include her. I can’t think of any other way in the time I have now to articulate how much love I feel for her, and besides anything I say wouldn’t do her justice. What I can say though is that I hope she has a fantastic birthday with everyone, and I look forward to saying happy birthday again on the big 90.
Congratulations Nanny, you’ve done so much for all of us and I’m really happy for you on this amazing day. Here are some fireworks from Singapore for you!
Love you :).
